Katrina “Katie” Ward brings enthusiasm and experience to the Crocodilian Conservation Center of Florida’s Board of Directors.
Over the years, Katie has worked with all species of crocodilians, a multitude of venomous and non-venomous snakes, and numerous lizards, turtles, and tortoise species. A specialist in operant conditioning training, breeding, and exhibit design, Katie has led multiple crocodilian captures and relocations in the U.S. and overseas, training programs for Slender-snouted and Salt-water crocodiles, breeding efforts for critically endangered species such as the Komodo dragon and Gharial, and exhibit construction projects for amphibians and snakes – just to name a few.
Following her graduation from Santa Fe College’s Zoo Animal Technology program, Katie worked her way through the keeper ranks at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm and Zoological Park, followed by a six-month long internship at the Madras Crocodile Bank and Trust in India. She worked most recently at the Fort Worth Zoo, and Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society.
As of April 2016, Katie is now the Area Supervisor for Wild Florida and the facility-wide lead for all reptiles and amphibians at the Brevard Zoo, located in Melbourne, Florida.
